Week 4 of USFL finished Sunday with a gritty brawl between the Houston players and the New Orleans thugs at the protective stage.
In the end, the Breakers emerged victorious, winning 23-16 despite four turnovers.
Breakers move to 3-1 thanks to late Kyle Sloter heroics
The New Orleans Breakers beat the Houston Gamblers 23-16 on a game-winning touchdown pass with 10 seconds left from Kyle Sloter to Jonathan Adams.
The Breakers improved to 3-1 to stay one game behind the Southern Division leaders Birmingham Stallions (4-0). Houston fell to 1-3.

New Orleans Breakers 23, Houston Gamblers 16
The match started off as a defensive struggle, with both teams struggling to move the ball. The Breakers took a 3-0 first quarter lead, however, and it wasn’t just on any old field goal.
Taylor Bertolet, who the Breakers just picked up, drilled a 50-yarder on his very first attempt.
Early in the second quarter, the Breakers were driving…until Beniquez Brown showed up in front of a pass from Kyle Sloter for a big interception.
And here’s what the interception looked like from the perspective of the intended recipient.
It gave the Gamblers a 7-3 lead when quarterback Clayton Thorson threw a quick pass to JoJo Ward, and the elusive receiver took care of the rest.
Houston scored a field goal to take a 10-3 lead, and the Gamblers defense constantly harassed Sloter.
But as the half ended, the Breakers put on a good drive, leveling the score 10-10 after running back Jordan Ellis forced his way into the end zone from 10 yards out.
It was 13-10, Gamblers at halftime, however, as Nick Vogel scored his second field goal of the game.
The Breakers tied at 13-13 and threatened to score again as they moved the ball upfield.
But Micah Abernathy stopped the drive with an interception in the end zone. It was New Orleans’ fourth game turnover.
The teams continue to muddle through as time is running out in the fourth quarter. But the Gamblers managed to get close enough to Vogel, who had a 53-yard field goal to put Houston ahead 16-13.
But the kicking battle continued, as Bertolet responded with a 45-yarder to level the score again, 16-16.
The Breakers had the ball back in under two minutes, and they made the most of their time, winning it when Sloter connected with Jonathan Adams on a 29-yard touchdown pass.
