A Brazilian beast meets an Italian stallion at UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Saturday (October 23, 2021) when former middleweight title challengers Paul Costa and Marvin Vettori face off on ESPN +. UFC Vegas 41 will also feature a lightweight fight between soaring Grant Dawson and murderer Ricky Glenn and a women’s bantamweight fight between finishers Jessica-Rose Clark and Joselyne Edwards.
With UFC 267 looming, it’s time to save for entry fees. Here’s how …
What went wrong with UFC Vegas 40?
Guess I was late for a full and total f * ck cluster. We even got to see all of my favorite failed bet types: overestimation (Ludovit Klein), terrible judgment (Ramazan Emeev), and inexplicably bad game planning (Aspen Ladd). Fortunately, we are still early for the year, but it was difficult.
UFC Vegas 41 Chances for the Undercard:
Gregory Rodrigues (-110) vs. Jun Yong Park (-110)
Tabatha Ricci (-230) vs. Maria Oliveira (+190)
Mason Jones (N / A) vs. David Onama (N / A)
Jai Herbert (-180) vs. Khama Worthy (+158)
Jeff Molina (-172) against Daniel Lacerda (+152)
Livinha Souza (-122) against Randa Markos (+102)
Laureano Staropoli (-240) vs. Jamie Pickett (+200)
Thoughts: I like the lines on Gregory Rodrigues, Jai Herbert and Laureano Staropoli as favorites. Daniel Lacerda doesn’t look like the underdog’s worst choice either.
“Robocop” Rodrigues was actually a slight underdog for a while, but there is still value there. As good as Jun Yong Park’s been lately, his biggest successes have come against forwards with limited wrestling plays. Rodrigues is by far the best grappler he’s faced since at least his unsuccessful UFC debut against Anthony Hernandez, and if the defense against “The Iron Turtle” withdrawal is as porous as it was then, Rodrigues will have a field day.
It’s worth a look for sure.
Here I am, indulging in my bad habit of betting on knockout puncher fights. Still, Jai Herbert appears to be a relatively safe choice despite his fragility. Khama Worthy has just suffered two brutal KO losses, one of them against a much shorter and less technically skilled striker at Ottman Azaitar, and doesn’t have the fight that Francisco Trinaldo and Renato Moicano mainly used to defuse. “The Black Country Banger”. Everything can and will go wrong when two glass cannons swap hands, but I’m ready to show my neck.
Jamie Pickett just doesn’t know how to keep shorter, stockier fighters away from him. Tafon Nchukwi and Jordan Wright were able to face him with impunity, and Staropoli’s equally aggressive characters were equally successful. “Pepi” is also very durable, so he should be able to withstand the occasional offensive blasts from “Nightwolf”.
UFC Vegas 41 Main Card Odds:
Marvin Vettori (-150) against Paulo Costa (+130)
Grant Dawson (-350) vs. Ricky Glenn (+290)
Jessica-Rose Clark (-140) vs. Joselyne Edwards (+120)
Seung Woo Choi (-280) vs. Alex Caceres (+240)
Francisco Trinaldo (-127) vs. Dwight Grant (+107)
Nick Negumereanu (-220) vs. Ike Villanueva (+180)
Thoughts: Francisco Trinaldo seems like a solid choice of where I’m sitting, and the three men over -200 could work as parlay fillers.
The thing with Dwight Grant is that he’s not a very good fighter. Two of his three UFC wins are the result of a questionable decision and his strike includes little more than wild swings with straight arms, which he doesn’t have the gas tank to throw more than a few – one at each turn. Trinaldo may be undersized and a million years old, but even a depleted version of him is better than any iteration of Grant.
When it comes to big favorites, Rick Glenn has always struggled with determined grapplers, which Grant Dawson absolutely is. Plus, Seung Woo Choi really looks like he’s gaining the upper hand, while Ike Villanueva’s poor performance in the UFC doesn’t leave me convinced that he can cope with the basic but relentless pressure of Nick Negumereanu. Incorporate them as you see fit …
