the Deposit Theater will become easy going theaterwith a decidedly anomalous (and eclectic) three-show lineup for the 2022 Mainstage season, which features a Sondheim tribute, gripping drama, and a chillingly hilarious musical. The only professional equity theater in the Adirondacks, the Deposit will continue to adhere to government and Actors’ Equity health and safety guidelines.

“Just as we creatively manage the onstage reaction to trains interrupting our performances, we are prepared for all the protocols we will need to implement to protect our actors and clients,” said Kim Rielly, Deposit Theater Executive Director. “As in 2021, we appreciate everyone’s support and flexibility to enable the live experience. theater again!”

The season opens with the humorous, poignant and sophisticated musical revue, PUT TOGETHER. This show is a celebration of the stage and screen work of multi-time Tony Award-winning Stephen Sondheim, the greatest theatrical composer/lyricist of our time. Sondheim died in 2021 at the age of 91. The show weaves a lyrical story around the emotions and relationships of five guests attending a cocktail party in Manhattan, and it features material from a number of Sondheim’s works, including ANYONE CAN WHISTLE, COMPANY, FOLIES, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, SWEENEY TODD, MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG, SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and INTO THE WOODS. The show will take place from From June 30 to July 17.

Next step for the season, which begins From July 21 to August 7, is the controversial and gripping drama, OLEANNA, which includes electrifying dialogue, flamboyant emotion, and a sobering ending. The play begins when an anxious college student meets with her professor about her grades, and ends with a complaint to the college for her allegedly inappropriate behavior. The audience is challenged to choose sides as the serene campus turns into a battleground for justice: they believe he has done nothing wrong, and she feels violated and demands atonement.

The season ends in the wacky, upside-down world of THE ADDAMS FAMILY – NEW MUSIC. In this comedic feast set to music, the beloved, dark and macabre girl, Wednesday is now an eighteen-year-old who has fallen in love with a sweet, intelligent boy from a “normal” family, and for To make matters worse, she invited her parents to dinner at the Addams’. Performances of THE ADDAMS FAMILY will be August 11-28.

THE ADDAMS FAMILY also provides an opportunity for local comedians.

“As actors associated with the capital theaterwe are required to pick a certain ratio of Equity members to non-Equity members for our collective season,” said Kenney Green, the Depositproduction art director. “This year, we’re thrilled to have brokered an opportunity to offer multiple roles for locals in the final show.”
