The eighth theatrical season ended at the Astana Ballet Theater. With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the collective of the capital presented 5 major premieres, including 3 national ones.

The season began with ten charity concerts for medical staff, organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Health. The charity evening concert program included performances as brilliant as the one-act ballet “Love Fear Loss” and the national entertainment “Heritage of the Great Steppe”, which fully reveals the grace, strength and expression of the dance. Kazakh National.

The Medal of Honor “Halyk Algysy” was awarded to the honored figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the main soloist Tatyana Ten, the main soloist Dilara Shomayeva, as well as the main soloist of the Astana Ballet Theater, a pedagogue- tutor, laureate of the Order of Kurmet Kazbek Akhmedyarov.

In October, a double creation took place: for one evening were presented one-act ballets such as “Longing” (passionate desire) by a guest choreographer from the Ricardo Amarante theater, and “Instinct” by David Jonathan, distinguished by splendid interpretation techniques, a madness of emotions in the plastic and minimalism in the artistic conception.

In November, the Astana Ballet Theater also delighted audiences with two premieres: the national ballet “Zheltorangy Turaly Anyz” (“The Legend of Zheltorangy”) on an environmental theme staged by Kazakh choreographer Anvara Sadykova, as well as that the entertainment “Triumph”. directed by choreographer Ainura Abilgazina to the music of Tchaikovsky.

In December, the long-awaited premiere of the show “Sultan Beibars” took place. This ballet became exceptional not only because of its choreographic novelty for the art of ballet, but also because of its simultaneous filming, and thus the televised ballet of the same name was presented for the first time in Kazakhstan.

As Independence Day approached, the deputy director of the Astana Ballet Theater, Dyussembay Mussabekov, received the Medal of Honor “Enbek Ardageri” (a veteran of the work); and the principal soloist of the theater Dilara Shomayeva received the “Eren Enbegi Ushin” medal (for distinguished work).

Also, an exclusive streaming broadcaster was created at the end of 2020. Its particularity lies in the performances in 360-degree format, which are staged taking into account the work of the dancers for the camera. The two-act ballet “Cinderella” by Sergei Prokofiev is now available for screening.

In January Nurlan Kanetov, Honored Artist of Russia and Tatarstan, former Dean of the Faculty of Choreography of the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography, was appointed to the post of artistic director of the Astana Ballet Theater.

The Astana Ballet Theater also hosted the performance of one of the most famous ballets in the world – “The Nutcracker” to the music of the famous composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky, the main parts were performed by the artists of the Mariinsky Theater – principal dancer Oxana Skorik and soloist Yevgeny Konovalov.

In March, a big gala concert was held with the brilliant soloists of major ballet theaters of the country like the Astana Ballet Theater, the Astana Opera Theater and the Kazakh State Academic Opera Theater. and ballet, as well as the return of performances such as “Walpurgis Night” and “GAIA” to the stage.

An educational project was also implemented within the framework of the “Children and Theater” initiative of the State program for the development of education and science for 2020-2025: a series of excursions called “Les backstage secrets ”was organized for students of 1-11 grades from schools and high schools in the city. On the occasion of International Children’s Day, the “Secrets of the Backstage” charity tour for socially vulnerable groups of the population took place at the Astana Ballet Theater.

To celebrate Capital Day, the premiere of the epic ballet “Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu” directed by choreographer Heorhii Kovtun was presented, which combines the best traditions of classical and modern ballet and unique dance movements. Kazakh folk; remarkably rich and brilliant costumes of the characters; large-scale and fascinating landscapes; amazing light effects and distinguished music by Aktoty Raimkulova.

The theatrical season ended with a successful guest performance in Kokshetau. The collective of the capital presented a delicious program on the stage of the Palace of Culture “Kokshetau”: the national entertainment “Heritage of the Great Steppe” and the neoclassical ballet called “A Fuego Lento”.

Amid the pandemic, artists began to master new forms of communicating with audiences. Thus, the AbaiTV channel broadcast performances from the theater repertoire such as “Journey of a Memory” by Raimondo Rebeck, “Love Fear Loss” and “Gaia” by Ricardo Amarante, “Walpurgis Night” by Heorhii Kovtun, a gala concert and a documentary film called “The phenomenon of Kazakh dance at the Astana Ballet Theater”.

According to the management of the Astana Ballet Theater, premieres such as “Rubies” by George Balanchine and “Lariats of Fate” by Mukaram Avakhri will take place in the new ninth theater season, and another production will become a real surprise no only for Kazakhstan, but also for the whole world.
