PARKERSBURG – The Smoot Theater Vocal Ensembles will host a registration event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 2-3 when potential singers can learn about the three vocal ensembles, meet the directors and ask questions about the programs.

Group singing will be part of the orientation, but no prior preparation is necessary. A parent must be present.

The event will be split into two sessions each day, the first at 4 p.m. and the second at 5 p.m. Attendees can pre-register at smoottheatre.com/youth-choirs, selecting their preferred date and time, or attending sessions and registering at that time.

The ensembles are the Children’s Choir for boys and girls in grades 4, 5 and 6, the Girls Ensemble for girls in grades 7 and up, and the Boys Ensemble for boys in grades 7 and up.

The Children’s Chorus is conducted by Barbara Full, retired music teacher from Neale Elementary School, and accompanist Marsha Parsons, retired vocal music teacher at VanDevender Middle School.

The Girls Ensemble is led by Cathy Martin, director of the retired Parkersburg High School A Cappella Choir. The Boys Ensemble is conducted by Janet Blessing, a retired vocal music teacher at Jackson Junior High School. The artistic director of the Smoot Theater is Felice Jorgeson.

All groups rehearse on Tuesdays of the school year, the Children’s Choir from 4:30 to 6 p.m., the Girls Ensemble from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and the Boys Ensemble from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The sessions will take place at the Smoot Theater, 213 Fifth St. in downtown Parkersburg.

There is an annual fee of $ 25 for membership in Smoot Ensembles.
