The expansion of gambling in Canada continues to accelerate, with the Government of Saskatchewan documenting a casino and sports betting deal with the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations.
The agreement, which represents an amendment to the framework gaming agreement, establishes a legal framework for a new online gaming site, which will be managed by the Saskatchewan Indian Games Authority.
“The FSIN Chiefs-in-Assembly have given the mandate to ensure this, and we are delighted to have finally achieved it. It took many hours, days, weeks, months and years to make this a reality. It’s all worth it, ”said Bobby Cameron, Head of FSIN.
“This will create new revenue opportunities that will benefit our 74 First Nations communities. Even during the difficult COVID pandemic, we continue to work hard to achieve positive results for our First Nations. “
The GFA amendment also establishes a revenue sharing agreement between the two parties, marking a 50/50 revenue split between the FSIN and the province.
SIGA has signed a letter of intent with the Saskatchewan Gaming Society, which establishes the general conditions for the first operation and the second for the management of the online site, which will offer online casino games and sports betting and whose launch is scheduled for 2022.
“This is an important day for SIGA as we continue to evolve with an evolving gaming industry and in our offering of entertainment options to our customers,” commented Reginald Bellerose, President SIGA.
“The additional revenue opportunities from online gaming and sports betting will only increase SIGA’s ability as a non-profit organization to positively impact employment, economic growth, community relations. positive aspects and the financial autonomy of the First Nations of the province. “
Jim Reiter, Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, added: “The province and the FSIN have a long and successful history as partners in the field of casino games.
