Music week announced this year’s Roll Of Honor, in association with TikTok, for our 2021 Women In Music Awards.
There are 14 names on this year’s roster, drawn from all sectors of the music industry and all with huge accomplishments to celebrate. They join the pantheon of previous winners, including some of the biggest names in the business, from Emma Banks and Sarah Stennett to Kanya King, Rebecca Allen and Stacey Tang, who have been shortlisted since the awards began in 2014.
As the ceremony nears the Park Lane Hilton on October 22, here’s a chance to learn more about this year’s Honor Roll inductees. Today we introduce you to Shauni Caballero, Founder of The Go 2 Agency and Co-Founder of G293 Publishing …
Shauni Caballero is a former director of Universal Music and PRS for Music and founder of The Go 2 Agency, a music publishing and consulting company that helps artists, writers and producers make money with their music.
Shauni’s publishing career began after having her son in 2016. Shauni took a job at PRS For Music because it was the only music job that worked during her son’s babysitting hours. While at PRS, she learned all about music royalties. When attending concerts Shauni always asked artists and writers if they had PRS and PPL accounts and to her surprise she realized how little people knew about publishing and royalties. Outside of his role, Shauni spent much of his free time traveling around town helping writers and artists set up their accounts and made a point of educating as many people as possible about them. musical royalties.
After leaving PRS, Shauni decided to set up a neighboring rights publishing and management company. One of the first writers Shauni worked with was DigDat, who became a star. Despite his early successes, Shauni had limited resources to carry out his work. As she became the “Go Girl 2” when it came to music royalties, Shauni felt compelled to learn all she could about them.
Shauni then worked for Universal Music in the copyright department for further training. After leaving UMG, Shauni decided to bet on herself and continue to grow her business full time.
Shauni’s first big client was Mixtape Madness, whose roster included Digga D, M Huncho, KO and many other successful artists, as well as Finesse Foreva, who at the time managed Am & Skendo, Ghosty, Gotcha, R14. , AV and many others. writers
Being at the center of rap / drill and having such unique access has led to a growing demand to host sessions and become more creatively involved with your writers. Shauni then spent time following friends of hers who were A&R to learn more about the creative process of making records.
As Shauni’s roster grew by working with Central Cee, Blanco, Teeway and more, she was approached for joint venture publishing deals. Shauni was very sure that she needed support and a business partner rather than the money thrown at her.
Whist at a showcase, Shauni met Riki Bleau, co-president of Since 93 Records, which had early success signing Labrinth, Sam Smith, Emeli Sande and more. Riki offered to make a deal with Shauni on the day they met. Within months, Shauni and Riki launched their joint venture publishing company G293 Publishing.
Shauni has just announced the release of a book, A Quick Guide 2 Music Royalties.
