The news bureau has compiled a list of events taking place over the coming week that are open to the public. The list includes two-time Grammy winner Jason Mraz in concert, the Winter Wonderlights at the State Botanical Garden, Africa in Athens Warehouse Sale at Mbare Home + Gift, and several holiday events for families.

Sunday November 28

Beechwood Holiday Market

What: Free holiday market for all ages, including a Christmas tree farm, hay walks, fire pits for roasting smores, and a live ornament and craft station. There will also be a holiday village with seasonal food, shops, holiday vendors and Santa’s post office. This event is recurring weekly on Sunday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Athens on ice: public skating

What: Northeast Georgia’s largest indoor ice rink is back. General adult admission tickets are $ 15 and sessions are 75 minutes long. This event is recurring every day. The November program can be viewed here.

Team scavenger hunt in Athens

Jason Mraz with Toca Rivera and Gregory Page

What: Two Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Jason Mraz will perform with Toca Rivera and special guest Gregory Page. Tickets are $ 44.50 to $ 96.50. $ 1 on each ticket sold goes to the Jason Mraz Foundation, a mission for inclusive arts education and the promotion of equality.

Culinary showcase of the city center

Lecture by the curator: “Inside Look: Selected Acquisitions from the Georgia Museum of Art

What: Shawnya Harris, Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson, Curator of African American and African Diasporic Art, will host a special free talk on examples from the “Femfolio” portfolio, featuring prints by artists such as Faith Ringgold and Miriam Schapiro.

Winter wonderland lights

What: The first Winter Wonderlights light show is back, with 11 illuminated displays along a half-mile path. The show will include a Garden of Earthly Delights, Candy Cane Lane and Cone Tree Plaza and more. Tickets are $ 15 per person and free for children under 3 years old. Members of the Friends of the Garden and groups of 20 people or more will benefit from a 10% discount. This event is recurring every day.

Parade of downtown lights

What: The annual Athens City Center Parade of Lights will take to the streets with the theme “A Superhero Party”. The parade will have two great marshals. Local nurses Laura Breckenridge representing the Piedmont Athens Regional and Luke Duncan from St. Mary’s Healthcare System have been selected to honor the local healthcare community who have been superheroes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The parade will also include the traditional tree-lighting ceremony at Town Hall hosted by Santa Claus. All participants are encouraged to adopt this year’s theme by highlighting heroes: real and / or fictional.

Morning Mindfulness
