With the return of spring, people are looking for things to do. On Saturday, April 9, lots of great things are happening in Jackson County.

West Virginia Chocolate Festival

Back for its 15th edition, the festival sees changes coming. While the parade will begin at 10 a.m., it will end at the festival’s new venue, Ripley Middle School.

There are 22 vendors selling all kinds of chocolate products. There will be activities, including a massage therapist and a bouncy castle, as well as performances by the Jackson County Children’s Choir at 10:30 a.m. and the Lincoln County Cloggers at 1 p.m.

Several food trucks, including That Donut Place, Granny Mae Food Truck and All-American Kettle Korn, will be located offsite. Entrance to the festival is free.

The West Virginia Chocolate Festival offers a plethora of treats for all to enjoy.

Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk

The opening ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. on the courthouse lawn, with the run and walk beginning at 8:30 a.m. All funds raised will go to the Tower to Tunnels Foundation which helps families of first responders and veterans injured or dead. Tasting of food made by the Amish and West Virginia

This tasty event will take place at Farmhouse Market Finds, 119 Highland Drive, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vicki Pullin will have food samples from WV Dark Hollow, Bridge Street Bistro, Walnut Creek Foods, Ducks, Wind and Willow and Country Home Creation Dips and Cheese Balls. Free entry.

Football league season kicks off

The Jackson County Junior Soccer League will play its opening matches beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. at Whiting Park in Ripley. Admission is free and concessions are available.

Ripley Library Minicon

This fun event focuses on comics, superheroes and fantasy. Come dressed as your favorite character and take part in role-playing games, a treasure hunt, a panic room and many other activities. The MiniCon will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Greene Center Auction

A public auction will begin at 6 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. at the Greene Center in Kenna. There will be a wide range of items to bid on and the center’s “world famous” hot dogs will be part of the concessions. It will also be possible to purchase chances on a handmade quilt which will be offered in December. Proceeds from this raffle will go to the Multi-Purpose Gym Flooring Project. The center will also host a free Easter party on Sunday, April 10, from 2-4 p.m., with inflatables, games, and light refreshments.

Pilot Club Bingo

The Jackson County Pilot Club’s “Bling and Brawn Bingo” will be in the cafeteria at Ripley High School at 6 p.m., with doors open at 5 p.m. Cost at the door is $25 for 20 games; concessions will be available. All proceeds will go to the nonprofit’s dental program.

Monster Truckz Extreme Tour

This exciting event will take place on Friday, April 8 at 7 p.m.; Saturday 9 April, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, April 10 at 2 p.m. at I-77 Speedway on Cedar Lakes Drive. Tickets can be purchased at www.tickets.monstertruckz.com.
