RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – The push continues to get more gunfire, especially with the appearance of the Delta variant spreading across the country. Now, the Richmond and Henrico health departments are making it easier than ever to get a vaccine by showing up at events with large numbers of people.

When the crowds arrive at Church Hill Gospel Fest on Saturday, they will have more than a performance. They will also have the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“You’re enjoying the sun, your family, the music, and you can just swing by the table and get the shot while you’re on the move. It just got that simple, ”said Cat Long, spokesperson for the health department.

She says they are doing this to make it more convenient than ever.

“Barely 6 months ago, we were in a situation where it was really difficult to find a vaccine. People drove for hours to get vaccinated. People were on long lists, ”she said.

Not anymore – health leaders now spawn where the crowds are. Even Rite Aid gets on board; the company will be at a Fitz & the Tantrums Show on Sunday to help pick up guns.

The health department is also rolling out a new method from your phone, to see the latest COVID-19 data that shows how many people are getting sick from COVID and how many of those people have actually been vaccinated.

“We have seen that over 99% of people with COVID are unvaccinated and those numbers are also true for hospitalizations and deaths,” Long said. “We hope people see these numbers and really understand how effective vaccines are. “

Hence the awareness-raising effort and the opportunities to be vaccinated.

“It makes vaccines so accessible. We go directly to where people live, work or play to provide vaccines, ”continued Long.

Richmond and Henrico Health Services say they are happy to hear from you if you have an upcoming event that you would like them to come to so they can give even more shots.
