PORT CLINTON — Three sisters with three very different personalities sharing a home result in hilarious bickering and lots of laughs for the audience in Playmakers Civic Theater’s production of “Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner.”

The fast-paced comedy tells the story of three sisters who need a little extra help around the house, whether they like it or not.

The play features a cast full of talented performers, including Peggy McConnell as gruff Dora, who has little grace for anyone; Sylvia Chappell as Lydia, a retired English teacher who still acts like she’s leading a class of children; and Margaret Helbing as sweet Maggie, whose memory isn’t working as well as she thinks.

Also in the cast are Rich Riedmaier, CJ Perry, Devon Perry, Rich Kihlken, Trish McCartney and Dr. Wallace. The show is directed by Steve Fillmore.

Always looking for more actors

Nadine Jensen is president of the Playmakers Civic Theater and costume coordinator for “Those Crazy Ladies in the House on the Corner.” She was grateful that the theater was able to find so many talented performers for the play.

“We don’t have many actors in this theatre. We would always like more,” Jensen said. “There were just enough quality actors who tried out for this show.”

Jensen said the play’s review committee had already considered the play, but the timing was not right. This year, the piece was well suited to performers.

Director Steve Fillmore, center, interrupts the dress rehearsal to give instructions to the actors. With him are, left to right, Peggy McConnell, Margaret Helbing, Rich Riedmaier and Sylvia Chappell.

“Besides, it’s a good title. Ro Chapman, our late and great former GM used to say a title is everything,” Jensen said. “Who wouldn’t want to see ‘Those Crazy Ladies in the Corner House’?”

“Crazy Ladies in the Corner House” will run at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, April 1, 2, 8, and 9, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays, April 3 and 10. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. . Tickets can be purchased at pcplaymakers.org or at Lilly and Gert’s at 124 W. Second St, Port Clinton.

The full season of productions is planned

The theater has scheduled a full season of performances in Port Clinton. Playmakers Civic Theater has invited the Fremont Community Theater to bring their romantic comedy “Kalamazoo” to Port Clinton from April 29 to May 1.

“It stars Peggy McConnell and Ron Hill, who are both very accomplished actors and OCTA (Ohio Community Theater Association) award winners,” Jensen said. “It’s about falling in love in your older years. It was so wonderful that we decided to ask them to also present it here at Playmakers. It is a collaborative effort between Playmakers Civic Theater and Fremont Community Theatre. We are really happy to be able to do this.

This summer, Playmakers Civic Theater will present the hit off-Broadway musical, “The Marvelous Wonderettes.” Auditions for the musical will take place at the theater on May 9 and 10 at 7 p.m.

Playmakers Civic Theater is at 604 W. Sixth St. For more information, visit pcplaymakers.org. There is no longer a mask mandate for performances.
