One of the biggest musical events of the summer – Salmonfest – takes place in Ninilchik this weekend. But for those who can’t, fear not. There are still entertainment options in Anchorage as well as a number of First Friday stops for art lovers. And for those who like to fish, the second annual Coho Rodeo at Ship Creek.

Coho Rodeo Ship Creek Silver Salmon Derby: 7:00 a.m. Saturday, The Bait Shack, 212 W. Whitney Rd.

Now in its second year, the Coho Rodeo held along the shores of Ship Creek allows anglers to cast a line to help others, while fishing for a chance to win cash prizes. Proceeds from this year’s derby are donated to Alaska EXCEL, Alaska RiteCare Foundation, Armed Services YMCA Alaska and Bean’s Cafe. The top prize is $1,000 with $2,000 in total cash prizes.

5 lesbians eating quiche: 7 p.m. Friday to Sunday, Cyrano’s Theatre, 3800 Debarr Rd.

This production at Cyrano follows five women gathered in a church basement for the 1956 annual meeting of the Susan B. Anthony Society for Gertrude Stein’s sisters’ annual quiche breakfast. The play is directed by Warren Weinstein, who has been performing around Anchorage for 25 years. Tickets range from $27 to $30.

Alaskan Thunder FunkFriday: 7 p.m., Bernies Bungalow Lounge, 626 D St.

Alaska Thunder Funk features a mix of funk, rock, and hip-hop, so dancers should be ready to hit the floor. The group will be followed by DJ Gre.

Anchorage Chamber Music Festival: 7:30 p.m. Friday UAA Recital Hall, 3700 Alumni Dr.

The music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Strauss and Béla Bartók will be presented during the concert featuring large chamber ensembles. Tickets range from $24 to $29.50. There is also a house benefit concert on Saturday with the theme Fairy Tales and Animals.

Do or Die Hip Hop Showcase: 9 p.m. Saturday, Van’s Dive Bar, 1027 E. 5th Ave.

Presented by the collective Live From The North, this rap evening features Kevin The Brain, Ir1, Dan Harder, Prince Melodic, Non Profit Times, Avid Waves and Cody Bank$. Doors at 9 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Bad Charlotte: 10 p.m. Saturday, Koot’s, 2435 Spenard Road.

This group is made up of former members of Splendid Chaos, as well as Charlotte Fischbach, from Alaska. Bad Charlotte is in Anchorage for three weeks.
