Do you like musical theater? Did you imagine your Tony for the best musical? Are you looking for a resource to develop your musical theater skills? Black Theater Girl Magic (BTGM) has implemented an 8 week course to educate black and indigenous women on the fundamentals of musical theater.
Classes will take place via Zoom every Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., from January 17 to March 7, 2022 (See below for the schedule). These workshops are intentionally aimed at advancing the presence of black and indigenous women in musical theater through the guidance of esteemed guest instructors.
The Musical Theater Anatomy Program will promote an understanding of the structure of musical theater writing for lyricists, librettists / playwrights and composers through outstanding instructors in the musical theater industry. Weekly sessions will include lectures, collaborative speed dating exercises, Q&A with guest instructors, and commentary on student story ideas / work generated in class. This program is exclusively offered free of charge to Black and Indigenous Women / Women-Aligned Persons.
This program is looking for 16 participants who will have to complete an application file and an interview with a selection jury. Those chosen to participate will commit to attending at least six of the eight sessions of the workshop. BTGM strongly encourages all Black and Indigenous women interested in the program to apply, regardless of their background in musical theater and / or musical theater writing.
