Aurora Arts’ latest production, “Sylvia,” is a story of relationships, marriage, and furry friends. The cast joined First Edition with a preview.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Grab your popcorn and head to the Aurora Arts Theater this weekend to catch their latest production “Sylvia.”

This production is a story of relationships, marriage and furry friends, teaching understanding of the relationship between man and dog.

“It’s about a couple who have a newly acquired dog. The husband is excited about it and the wife isn’t so excited,” said Laurie Guajardo who plays wife Kate.

Guajardo adds that you’ll see a lot of ups, downs, and funny moments throughout the show. The audience can also see that the dog is not played by a four-legged friend, but rather by a two-legged person – Ashley De La Garza.

“It’s a lot more fun than people think,” De La Garza said. “It was fun studying for this character because all I had to do was come home and watch my dogs and you watch them but you don’t realize what you’re doing until you don’t. ‘don’t try to imitate their ways.’

The theater is enjoying a successful 12th season after two difficult years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Theater manager Charlie Chapa says it’s great to be back thriving, putting on shows for the community.

“With the ongoing pandemic, we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to stay open, but with lots of help from the community and all of our cast, we kept going,” theater manager Charlie Chapa said.

The cast is made up of four actors, all of whom hope audiences enjoy the show and take a few messages home with them.

The show runs until July 3. For more information and tickets, click here.
