BOSTON, Mass and ITHACA, NY – The Binghamton track teams got rid of the rust in two season opener in impressive fashion.

Emily mackay and Dan Schaffer each set school records in the Boston / Sharon Colyear-Danville meet – both in 5K. Meanwhile, at the Cornell / Greg Page relays, the first places were handed over by Stephanie Cassens, Nia joyner, Madison Krochina and Marcrène Jeannot.

No team scored in either competition.

Running against many of the nation’s top college runners – as well as unattached pros – Mackay and Schaffer continued their assault on Binghamton’s record books. Mackay clocked 15:44, breaking the previous women’s indoor record of 16:56 set by Allison Davis in 2018. Schaffer, meanwhile, recorded a time of 13:51. In the process, he shattered the previous indoor mark of 2:23, which had been set by Adam Quinn in 2011.

Mackay was 15th overall, but 13th among college runners. Schaffer was 29th overall – but was 20th among college entries.

At Cornell, meanwhile, Cassens won the women’s 500m in 1: 16.90. Krochina dominated the women’s shot put (52-4 ¾) while Joyner won the women’s triple jump (39-5). Jeannot finished first in the men’s triple jump (48-5 ¼).

Still at Cornell, Jenna chan set the female freshman record in the 60 hurdles. His fourth time of 8.74 eclipsed the 2013 mark of 8.85, set by Kierra Arthur.

Binghamton returns to action at the Lehigh / Angry Bird meet on January 15.
