The Aspen Art Museum will host free concerts and lectures in the days leading up to its 2021 ArtCrush lineup. The museum is also announcing a free family event and party on Thursday.

ArtCrush, the museum’s annual gala and fundraiser, will take place at Buttermilk Ski Resort on August 6. The 2021 event will honor painter Mary Weatherford with the Aspen Prize for Art. The tony event, the museum’s largest fundraiser, was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, the museum will host a preview of the ArtCrush2021 auction in the galleries of the museum from July 27 to August 5, opening to the public more than 45 works that will be auctioned at the private gala. In previous performances of the event, a “PreviewCrush” presented the pieces for auction in shopping malls in Aspen for one day.



An ArtCrush Welcome Party on August 4 at the museum is open to all museum members, as well as ArtCrush ticket holders. Also on this day, the museum will hold a free roundtable discussion on public monuments and current debates on who should and should not be commemorated by them.

Another free event, After Hours at the Aspen Art Museum, begins at 6 p.m. on August 5 with guided tours of the gallery and a specialty cocktail by artist Adam Stamp’s Slipper Slope bar. Also that night, the museum will host a free performance by Stephen Prina, who will stage a performance of his 1976 composition String Quartet for Six Players. Registration is required for each event.



In collaboration with Frieze, the museum will also publish an ArtCrush commemorative magazine.

The Gala’s long-running WineCrush tasting event is not on the schedule.

The museum will also host a free “Midsummer Blow Out” for families on Saturday July 31st. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., it will feature a performance by the Denver Brothers of Brass and live music hosted by KDNK. Hosted by Gabrielle Rucker of the Sparkle Nation Book Club, activities will include garden-related art creation in the rooftop garden installation by artist Precious Okoyomon.

Other ArtCrush events remain by invitation only. These include tours of private art collections, a performative lunch experience at Pine Creek Cookhouse with Spiral Theory Test Kitchen, and tastings with artist Zina Saro-Wiwa’s Illicit Gin Institute.
