
ALEXANDRIA, VA – From October, Library of Alexandria invites residents to participate in their fall outdoor programs. There are events for all ages. Wearing a mask is recommended and social distancing considerations will be in place. In case of rain, contact a branch for the most recent information. Check out the list of events below.
Friday October 1 at 3 p.m.
Alexandria Library hosts Careful Knitting outside of the Barrett branch to socialize and share projects while we knit and crochet.
Saturday October 2 at 10 a.m.
The Library of Alexandria will hold its annual bike ride at two library branches to celebrate art. Bring your bike and join the library staff for this 1-hour tour starting at the Burke branch and ending at the Duncan branch.

Saturday October 2 at 11:30 am
Join us in making bubbles and bubble wands! Come have fun outdoors at the Burke Branch Library! All ages (children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult).
Mariachi Los Mensajeros Del Sur By Humberto Guzman
Saturday October 2 at 1 p.m.
Enjoy a free performance of authentic Mexican mariachi music outside the Barrett branch to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Sunday October 3 at 11 a.m.
Join the Alexandria Animal Welfare League, Alexandria Library, local businesses and more to celebrate animals of all shapes and sizes at this family-friendly event!
Book-Nic: A picnic with books!
Monday October 4 at 12 p.m.
Bring a picnic blanket, something to eat and a few extra books, and join Miss Amy for a story hour in the park! Light snacks and mini bottles of water will be provided.

Tween Art: photos and portraits of leaves
Tuesday October 5 at 4 p.m.
The leaves are falling and art is calling! Come and create images using colorful fall leaves. Attendance is first come, first served.
Outdoor sensory play for toddlers
Wednesday October 6 at 11:30 am
Join Mme Suzanne for a special story hour including sensory bins, water games, paint rocks and other activities specially designed for your little one. Make sure you wear something you can get dirty!

Up All Night: a support group for new parents
Wednesday October 6 at 12:30 p.m.
Feel like the only one standing with a child in the middle of the night? Come celebrate and empathize with other parents! Babies and children are welcome.
Tai Chai at the Beatley Library
Thursday October 7 at 5:30 p.m.
On the first Thursday of the month, from October to December, join Jorge Banales to give instructions on the Yang Style 24 Movement form of tai chi.
Story time with the Black History Museum
Saturday October 9 at 10 a.m.
Join us as we explore the history of the local African American community in Alexandria through books and more. This event is co-sponsored by the Alexandria Black History Museum and the Historic Alexandria Office.

Bring beloved items to the library at the Kate Waller Barrett branch to be repaired or advised by a Fixit trainer who will help teach you the skills to fight the throwaway culture.
Environmental Landscaping: Design Your Yard With Native Plantations

Looking to spice up your lawn? Join local landscaper Alex Barnett as he describes how to plan your garden space with native species.

Yoga in the reading garden: outdoor exercise Series
Monday October 18 at 5 p.m.
Wendy Harper returns to lead the popular Yoga in the Reading Garden. Yoga will take place every 3rd Monday from October to December. Remember to bring a yoga mat and a bottle of water.
