MOREHEAD CITY, NC (WNCT) – Workers at the Big Rock Blue Marlin tournament have spent all day Friday preparing for the weekend festivities and what’s to come from next week.
Friday night events like “Best Dressed” and “Meet the Captains” will take place at Big Rock Landing. There were also preparations for the women’s-only KWLA tournament, which starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The boats will be in the water and will be able to fish until 2 p.m.
The KWLA tournament is a catch-and-release with a point system. The blue marlin will count for 400 points and the white marlin or sailboat will get 125 points. The team with the most points will receive the KWLA scholarship of $ 80,000.
Crystal Hesmer, executive director of the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament, said she was very excited to see some normalcy for the 63rd annual event.
We know that the holds are full, people are fighting to find places for the boats at the dock, so we expect a very large influx for 2021.
